It would be interesting to see the play on at the Sydney Opera House from September 5 to October 17 about the challenges women face when elected to parliament
Sexual violence
Sexual violence, abuse and consent issues prevail and indicate a very serious problem emerging in Australia. Today a report suggests that a Sydney girl was killed by strangulation during sex.
Women’s equality
On women’s rights, a University of Melbourne survey revealed more. Almost 1 in 3 boys aged 13 to 17 believe attempts to give women equal opportunities have gone too far. Aussies must just wonder what sort of parents and families they come from?
Gambling
The campaign for gambling reform has fallen flat. A different strategy is required based on the opinions of voters, not organisations.
Human Road Kill
The NSW Government ran an ad in SMH today offering grants of up to $5,000 and $30,000 for groups to improve road safety. What do these politicians think the groups can do? We ran the Roadwatch Campaign that reduced the death toll from 17 killed per 100,000 in 1987 to 4.5 killed per 100,000 in about 2015. The government has done nothing to reduce the killing on the roads since then. Police presence on the road is as scarce and as ineffective as it is in controlling organised crime.
Taxation
NSW Politicians deliberately deny Police the funding they need, while federal politicians tax billionaire corporations at lower rates than many people, depriving the states of money to govern with.
The fight over what states get most GST overlooks the fact that we voters pay 10% on everything we buy so paying extra tax but the big corporations do not pay a turnover tax equivalent and so again are taxed well under what many voters are
