Peter Principle meets Future Shock
The Australian population that was easily governable by Members of Parliament, has continued to grow at an accelerating rate as describe in the book Future Shock. It has now grown so much and so fast that the Members of Parliament are now unable to govern properly. MPs cannot ensure that the structures, infrastructure and services needed by rapidly accelerating population are made available as and when needed. The population has grown beyond their ability to serve it.
Population out of control
Since 1 January 2000 our Federal Parliamentarians of all political persuasions have increased the population 50% from 19 million to 28 million. They have tragically over-crowded people into our ultra-expensive major capital cities. That is despite Australia having vast land areas available for cheap expansion. That concentration has increased the cost of housing, office blocks, factories roads and other infrastructure. Not only is land scarce but around freely becomes more difficult and expensive.
Politicians in a hole
Politicians and public servants at all levels have dug Australia into a hole that is going to take some getting out of. They have failed to provide the facilities, services and infrastructure needed by our rapidly increasing population. At the same time Australians are faced with the increasing threat of climate change, or for those who doubt climate change, undeniable global warming. The country is now dealing with very serious divisions of opinion and culture. These are leading to unprecedented violence, hatred and confrontation between the people and the Police. This is the Peter Principle applied to politics.
We see overcrowded capital city residents becoming very fractured with each other. Children are raised in small high-rise apartments with no private backyards in which to play in absolute safety.
AI impact on city living
Many Australians live primarily in capital city skyscraper housing towers because they work in the skyscraper office blocks not too far away. Some work primarily in service, management and data processing divisions of companies that sell goods and services. Others work in government offices that supervise the services that governments provide. This is the rationale for people paying $3 million for a 3 bedroom home in Sydney suburbia when the same home would cost $450,000 at Inverell, $500,000 at Parkes ( Elvis festival, The Dish) and $770,000 in Molong.
Yet AI data centres are being built in Australia so that AI can take over large numbers of the jobs being done today in those office blocks. The CEO of CBA explained that on 7.30 last night. CBA will shed 300 jobs followed by 1,000 at Wisetech. If office management and processing jobs go in the city, people may not be happy to pay such a high premium for city housing. The remaining jobs might be just as easily done online in beautiful Rural and Regional Australia. Then home units in Sydney might sell for a song. That would cause a mortgage debt nightmare that today’s home buyers may do well to consider. Australia has many “ghost Towns” today which were thriving settlements at one time long ago. We could easily see a housing collapse or a GFC again where mortgages are on-sold but end up with insufficient property values to secure the mortgages. That means foreclosure.
RARA
Our Aboriginal community still suffers massive discrimination and disadvantage. It needs serious Voter action to fix the situation. Parliament isn’t! The solutions are relatively easy but parliament mumbles and bumbles on it. The size of the big cities is the real problem. Rural And Regional Australia is starved of infrastructure and services as everything is sucked into the vortex of capital cities.
Immigrant needs quite different to those of natural increase
There are not nearly enough homes to go around. 400,000 migrants in each of the last 3 years would need 160,000 homes a year. But never compare immigration with natural increase as the needs are totally different. Fortunately the 100,000 annual natural increase for those 3 years, in babies will not need their own homes for about 20 years. The adults who died made homes available immediately. There will also be children born 20 years ago from the Australians and the immigrants of the early 2000’s, who also need homes.
Spinning in the cyclonic vortex
Australians are living in caravans and tents or in rented rooms. A lady with 6 children was mentioned doing that today. Hospitals are so bad that some are killing people instead of healing them. Two more today. The plight of Northern Beaches Hospital in Sydney is a shocking example. The long-standing plight of interns and nurses working phenomenally long hours is frightening for patients. Patients are escaping from mental hospitals attacking and killing people. I think two or three in the last fortnight. Police are short on numbers and behaving badly still. They love the thrill of USA style car helicopter chases but kill innocent road users in the process. Haven’t thought of drones yet. Organised crime rules the roost in places like Sydney and Melbourne. Police are otherwise occupied. Politicians have made laws that protect the crims by letting them free. Judges and magistrates depend on crime for work. Courts are so far behind in hearing cases that many cases just collapse. The guilty get off and victims suffer in silence. Killers are deliberately set free to attack innocent citizens in the big city. It save parliament the cost of gaols.
Education falters
Some public schools are a shambles with the NSW government closing down single sex schools, such as were attended by the lucky Premier and Education minister. This ensures that girls harassed by immature schoolboys will not be able to learn and progress as well. Teacher entry standards are falling when there is a need for them to teach students more and more. Many children are neglected as their parents are both working and under constant mortgage stress if they are lucky enough to own a home. NSW education policy is seeing parents who can afford it flocking to non-government schools with their children. We need Government schools to be every bit as good as non-government ones.
Railway lines in rural areas have been ripped up to prevent expansion of inland cities while government propose spending zillions on new high-speed rail and road options along with air services to bring people into Sydney from Newcastle instead of putting high-speed rail from Sydney to Adelaide via Broken hill, opening up vast areas for new communities to live. Internet now connects Rural And Regional Australia with the world. Government and businesses don’t want people where the air is clean, homes are cheap and food is produced. They want those people in the city so they can more easily be controlled and exploited. Immigrants often have to accept underpaid jobs Aussies shun. Aged care services are so bad that people who should be in nursing homes are occupying hospital beds. The beds are needed for people having operations. Child care is so hopelessly controlled that it has become and probably still is, a hotbed of physical and sexual abuse of young children, attracting paedophiles galore. We cannot afford to allow the Peter Principle affect our democracy. How we get Australia back to a size our politicians can mange is hard to know. They have already suggested that we create 40 more electorates with 40 more MPs. You can be sure that the major parties will be working hard to ensure that the new electorates favour themselves. What it will certainly do is give far more electoral power to the migrants of the last 25 years and disenfranchise the Australians who have been here for the last 50 or more. Watch to see how many citizenship ceremonies they arrange between now and the next federal election in 2028. We do need a citizen pledge that is legally enforceable so that people who promise to uphold our laws and then move into crime lose that citizenship. Citizenship on the basis of obeying the law might not be a bad start. Tougher penalties for Aussie who break the law might also be a good idea if we want a fair honest and just society. But if poverty leads to crime we need to even out the national wealth first.

As voters it is surely our job to get involved and help guide our elected representatives on what to do. That is what Voters Network was established to do. Rating them monthly on what they do is a lot fairer than making snap judgements at election time driven by advertising and PR campaigns to win votes.
