Can’t delegate your voter-power!
Voters have such great unused power in Australian democracy. Lots try to delegate it by joining organisations to speak for them. It can’t be done because no organisation can tell you how to vote. None can tell how you voted anyway. Only each one of us Aussies can exercise our voter-power. It is possible that we are each more powerful than people in any other country.
Votergrams
One Aussie family, got cranky about how badly they were treated by a government body. Four of them thought and talked and talked for many years. “How can we make government work for the people it is supposed to serve.” Then one day it came to them like a lightening bolt. They had no power over public servants. One local MP was almost powerless in a parliament of 100, or 200.
But parliament was like a big organisation meeting. To get something done you had to convince a majority of members at the meeting. In order to convince a majority you had to first tell all members what you wanted and explain why. For them to understand, it needed to be concise. The family invented the “Votergram”. It was a 100 word message. So it took no time to read and absorb. The message said what the voter wanted. Briefly it explained why it was needed. Votergrams were a roaring success.
That’s because voters determine the careers of MPs. MPs are there to repre3sent voters and do it very well for those who ask them for assistance by Votergram.
